Bali is a magnificent island with stunning beaches and numerous attractions. However, there are many more things to do in Bali besides visit the beaches.
For one thing, we have various hiking trails that will provide you with an unforgettable experience. The best thing is being in touch with nature even when it’s cold outside.
Hiking will help you maintain your physical fitness, and spending time in nature will help you enhance your mental health.
1. Sekumpul Waterfalls
The Sekumpul trail is perfect for hiking because it leads you through not one, but seven spectacular waterfalls in a small space.
Although most Bali treks require the services of a professional guide, this is one well-marked and secure track that you may walk alone. The first descent down the stone steps may be difficult. Once at the bottom, though, you can take a path that leads to four waterfalls. You can also follow the thrills and take the opposite way, which leads to the famously beautiful Sekumpul Falls, after which the trail is named.
It’s a popular bathing spot, and the entire region may get rather crowded during peak season. Therefore, make sure to arrive early in the morning to enjoy it to yourself, without the crowd.
Also, be aware that you’re likely to get immersed in water during this stroll, so make sure you have suitable footwear before you go.

2. Mount Batur
Mount Batur is one of Bali’s most popular treks. Even Kintamani, the second-highest mountain on the island is breathtaking.
It is located north of Ubud, among the volcanoes that make up the mountain. Most tour organizations that provide trek guidance start the hike in Ubud. The caldera of the volcano is another Unesco World Heritage site on the island and one of the most popular sites for sunrise viewing.
Mount Batur’s summit is 1,717 meters above sea level and offers some very breathtaking views of Caldera Lake and Mount Rinjani.
The sudden change from day to night will ensure you’ll be thankful for having your camera on the hike.

3. Mount Lesung
This gently-paced trip is one of the most well-known rainforest day hikes in the world. It’s one of Bali’s most stunning hiking trails!
Your adventure begins at the western end of Tamblingan Lake, where you begin your steady but minimally inclined ascent to the mountain’s summit, where you are surrounded by a gorgeous verdant forest.
If you make it to the top, you’ll be rewarded with a stunning view of the volcano’s crater and the Munduk Valley below.
I propose going on an overnight hike so you can see several of the most spectacular starry night skies before drifting off to the melody of the forest.

4. The Old Nature Cave Trek
The Old Nature Cave Trek is the hike for you if you want an adventure that is both gorgeous and interesting.
This challenging walk begins in the well-known Sangeh Monkey Forest and leads you through the forest and a mountain range before arriving at your destination: a cave.
Once you’ve arrived, spend some time relaxing in the cave and dipping your feet into the cool waters. When you’re ready, continue your tour by walking through the Penet River Valley.
This hike will allow you to see wildlife, including monkeys, as well as beautiful scenery. As they swing from tree to tree, you’ll get up up and personal with these amazing creatures!
It’s one of Bali’s most beautiful hiking trails, so if it sounds like something that might interest you, get out there and enjoy it.

5. The Red Coral Waterfall Trek
Have you heard of Munduk’s Red Coral Waterfalls?
It’s a 10-minute walk from the parking lot to this beautiful natural wonder, which provides a magnificent backdrop for photography and is suitable for people of all ages.
This waterfall is one of my favorites in Bali since it not only has a beautiful view of the lush foliage surrounding it and a solitary stream, but it’s also close enough to stroll to with your kids!
Because the waterfall is very shallow, swimming is not recommended. But don’t be concerned. There are plenty of other waterfalls in Bali that will make up for this one’s lack of swimming opportunities.
The hike isn’t very tough, but it does require some walking over muddy ground, so wear comfortable shoes. Before arriving at your destination, this is also a wonderful opportunity to explore local crops such as vanilla, avocados, and coffee fields.
If you haven’t seen the Red Coral Waterfalls yet, I strongly advise you to do so soon.

6. Sambangan Waterfalls
Sambangan is a hidden garden in Bali’s northwestern region. A location to get away from the crowds and enjoy nature. It’s not even on the main tourist routes, yet it’s well worth seeking out.
The journey begins with the breathtaking Sambangan Secret Garden Waterfall. Then you’ll witness rice fields, coffee plantations, and all the natural splendor that Bali has to offer. In this region, you’ll also see at least four beautiful waterfalls and a magnificent blue lagoon.
There are several opportunities to escape the heat by soaking in one or more of the numerous pools.
Natural slides in some locations allow you to glide into the cool, tranquil waters below.
It’s not only one of the best hiking routes in Bali, but also one of the most well-balanced I’ve seen!

7. The Twin Lake Hike
Tamblingan Lake and Buyan Lake are visible from the Bali Twin Lakes Viewpoint in Munduk. Bali Twin Lakes is located in Munduk, which is in Bali’s mountains.
The higher you go, the colder it becomes. The Bali Twin Lakes Viewpoint, on the other hand, is well worth the trek. The large stone block is situated on the main route, which is also known as the Wanagiri Hidden Hills. Google Maps labels it as “Bali Twin Lake Trekking Point.”
When driving through the city, avoid looking at it from the left side. It’s a huge grey platform with residents clustered in front of it, trying to sell photos of wild animals like snakes and bats.
Before embarking on one of the most unforgettable journeys you’ll ever have on the island, it’s logical to hire a competent guide.
You will get views of two of Bali’s most beautiful lakes, Tamblingan Lake and Buyan Lake.
Both are well-known for their breathtaking beauty and the opportunity to wander through a natural forest filled with nature’s lushness and an abundance of fauna that one may expect to see here.
The beautifully preserved temple deep in the forest, which is a reminder of the spiritual force that the area is thought to have, is the most unforgettable experience of this hike.

8. West Bali National Park
Look no further than West Bali National Park for an adventure that will steal your breath away and make you feel like you’re walking through Jurassic Park.
This park encompasses 10% of Bali’s land area, making it a significant undertaking. It’s not just known for its wonderful hiking paths. It also features several plants and creatures that are only found in Bali. You’ll be able to walk beneath brilliant green canopies and through the old mangrove forest, as well as spend time on the beach.
The highly endangered Bali Starling, barking monkeys, and many other species can be seen here in their native habitat.
If you want to hike through this stunning scenery, you must secure a seat with a guide for $14 because solo trekking is not authorized in this area.

9. Mount Agung
Mount Agung is Bali’s most sacred mountain. It is thought to be a replica of Mount Meru, the center of the universe. Even if you don’t believe in all of that, there’s no disputing that it’s a stunningly gorgeous hike that’s definitely worth doing. It is a well-known yet exceedingly difficult journey that is commonly visited due to the sunrise.
The climb takes about 12 hours, but you can cut that time in half by starting at Besakih Temple or using a different route from Pura Pasar Agung.
Both alternatives will necessitate the use of an orientation guide.
After completing the rather dangerous climb to the summit, sit back and relax while taking in some of the most magnificent displays of color you’ll see on the island.
It is best to book your tour through the concierge service of your hotel or another reputable agency.
It is critical to go with someone who is familiar with the terrain.

10. The Tegallalang Rice Terraces
These terraces are regarded as one of Bali’s most stunning vistas. They may be seen from a long distance and are frequently featured on postcards and travel guides.
The trek from Ubud to the rice terraces takes around 30 minutes, but it is definitely worth it! Because the rice terraces are close to Ubud, they are easily accessible by motorcycle or car. If you don’t want to drive, you can take a cab.
There are several entrances into the rice fields from cafes where you can eat or drink while admiring the rice fields below. The view from the summit is magnificent and provides excellent photography! However, some entries are available without the need to pay anything.
We recommend taking the walkways down into the field to get up close and personal with what makes this location special. Be warned that exploring the entire region could take anywhere from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours. It is also necessary to bring sunscreen because the sun can be harsh on the terraces at times.
Along the main road, there are several clothing and souvenir shops at reasonable pricing, in addition to cafes and restaurants. There are also popular swings for taking shots with rice fields in the background. It’s worth noting that the swings normally cost around $6 and include the rental of a flowy dress to create a professional Instagram impression. If you want to see Tegallalang’s terraces without being crowded, I recommend going early in the morning.

11. The Tirta Gangga Rice Paddies
Tirta Gangga rice fields are close to the water palace in the Karangasem Regency in East Bali.
I suggest taking a car from Ubud since there are around 60 kilometres to go. If you take a motorbike, it can take about 2 hours.
It’s worth noting that the Tirta the Gangga Rice Fields aren’t very well-known, and you’ll rarely see tourists since they all go to the water palace and then race on to the next stop.
You can find an ideal spot to view the rice fields of the Tirta Gangga region at Bukit Cinta. You can enjoy stunning panoramas of the rice fields, with the Agung volcano in the background.
The Tirta Gangga rice terraces are definitely among the most stunning despite their relative lack of popularity compared with Tegallalang.
The trek through these terraces is simple and generally flat, with stunning views of nearby mountains and incredible streams.
When you’ve completed your hike, go to The Water Palace. The Water Palace is a collection of pools fed by springs filled with Koi fish, beautiful fountains, and sculptures.

12. Campuhan Ridge Walk
The Campuhan Ridge Walk is the finest way to enjoy Bali’s natural beauty without having to travel all over the island.
One of the nicest things to do in Ubud is an easy stroll through a gorgeous forest.
You can start walking at daybreak and return by lunchtime, making it ideal for those looking for a quick morning activity before embarking on their next excursion.
The walk starts near the Ibah Hotel. Look for signs indicating “heading to the hill” and “this way walking Campuhan Ridge.”
Serious hikers will complain, but those who walk for fun will love this track. It’s surrounded by lush foliage resembling Ubudian nature.
You should go hiking early in the morning before the crowds arrive. It’s a 2-kilometer walk to Karsa Kafe, where you can stop for a delicious breakfast before returning to where you started.
Nearby Accommodations:
- Warwick Ibah Luxury Villas & Spa
- Hotel Tjampuhan & Spa
- Mahadana
Nearby Restaurants:

13. Lake Tamblingan Trek
Look no further than Danau Tamblingan for the ideal place to cool yourself in the summer. This stunning lake, located in North-Central Bali, is one of three volcano lakes on an upland plateau and is a 1.5-hour drive from Ubud. If you’re going on a two-day excursion, it’s ideal for getting away from the heat and relaxing in nature.
What’s the best part? Exotic birds and massive ficus trees can be seen up near and personal. There’s also lots of water to explore by canoe, so bring your swimming gear. This little bit of heaven may be found at the Bali Jungle Trekking information kiosk along the road that overlooks the lake.
It’s about 200 meters after some local restaurants and observation points.
There aren’t many visitors here, which means you can enjoy all the natural beauty without anyone else ruining it.

14. Mount Catur
Look no further than Mount Catur for an adventure that will leave you breathless and your heart thumping.
This hiking destination provides an amazing experience that will take you on an adventure unlike any other. This mountain, located in the Bedugul region near Plaga town, is one of the most popular trekking locations in the area.
Climbing to the summit takes roughly 2 hours through a shady, beautiful tropical rainforest. The panorama from the top is breathtaking, with views of Lake Beratan, Lake Buyan, and Lake Tamblingan.
The forest is inaccessible to people for extended periods of time and is rich in animals and flora, making it an ideal location for a picnic lunch with your guide.
The path takes about 7 hours to complete, but every step is worthwhile. It is also surrounded by beautiful gigantic trees and verdant woodlands. You’ll feel as if you’ve been transported to another dimension.
And if that wasn’t enough, at the top of Mount Catur, you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking vista. At the crest of the jungle, you may view a temple that is well worth the effort.

Nearby Restaurants:

15. Candidasa
This small town is located on the eastern shore of Bali, and it’s home to “virgin” beaches, camping places on cliffs, and hilly regions offering a wide range of hiking trails and walk. The trek towards Lempuyang Temple is one of the hikes that will take you through forests and rice fields until you reach Tenganan Village. It’s an ancient village located in the Regency of Karangasem.
The course goes on towards the villages around Macang and Ngis, traversing through forests and rice fields on the way before returning to Tenganan. This isn’t a long hike and should only take about 2 hours, but it’s ideal to be done with a guide. It’s possible to complete it independently if you’re highly enthusiastic and possess a strong awareness of the direction.
Like many Bali treks, you should leave at a reasonable time in the early morning to avoid the scorching heat. It’s not an easy hike, but it’s a fantastic experience. While walking along the route, people make large-scale offerings to the temple to worship.
