West Bali National Park, or Taman Nasional Bali Barat, covers the Prapat Agung peninsula, Bali’s northwestern tip, and is home to the gorgeous, endangered Bali starling. It’s a region surrounded by crystal-clear water and coral reefs that offer some of the island’s best diving and snorkeling. Dense mangrove forests emerge from these waters, giving place to lowland woods, acacia scrub, and dry savannahs that stretch as far as two extinct volcanoes and are more reminiscent of Southern Africa or the Mediterranean than tropical Bali.
Menjangan deer, macaques, including the rare Balinese black monkey, wild boar, display lizards, and 160 kinds of birds, including the endangered Bali starling and the colorful (and common) wild jungle fowl, are among the park’s wildlife.
